Best/Madrid, January/February, 2026 – The IHI-funded project IMPROVE – Framework to Improve the Integration of Patient-Generated Health Data to Facilitate Value-Based Healthcare will host its 3rd Stakeholders’ Community Workshop on 04 February 2026 in Best, The Netherlands. The workshop will be organized by Philips Medical Systems Nederland BV and will take place in the framework of the IMPROVE transnational project meeting.
Following the successful Stakeholders’ Community Workshops held previously in Ljubljana/Slovenia (January 2025) and Lecce/Italy (June 2025), the third workshop continues to build a strong and active international stakeholder community supporting the implementation of Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) across Europe. The event will bring together representatives from academia, healthcare providers, policymakers, industry, patient organizations, and citizens to exchange experiences, expectations, and concerns related to the use of patient-generated health data (PGHD).
Strengthening Patient-Centered and Outcome-Oriented Healthcare
European healthcare systems are becoming increasingly digital, generating large volumes of clinical and patient-generated data. However, fully unlocking the value of these data requires meaningful stakeholder engagement, particularly the active involvement of patients in the design, evaluation, and implementation of healthcare solutions.
The IMPROVE Stakeholders’ Community Workshop in Best will focus on:
· strengthening the integration of patient-reported outcomes and experiences into healthcare decision-making,
· identifying barriers and enablers for the adoption of PGHD in real-life clinical settings,
· supporting the transition from fee-for-service to outcome-based and value-based care models, and
· aligning stakeholder needs with the tools, methods, and models developed within the IMPROVE project.
The workshop format follows the successful approach of the previous events, combining project insights, stakeholder presentations, moderated discussions, and interactive exchanges. Particular attention will be given to lessons learned from earlier workshops and to translating stakeholder input into actionable recommendations.
The outcomes of the Stakeholders’ Community Workshop directly support the Work Package, where stakeholder-oriented tools, methods, and models fit, and evaluations are conducted. It aims to ensure that the IMPROVE framework and platform are aligned with real stakeholder requirements through co-creation and design science approaches. Insights gathered during the workshop will contribute to refining stakeholder personas, prioritizing requirements, and assessing the fit between stakeholder values and IMPROVE solutions.
In addition, the workshop contributes to the execution and evaluation of use cases by feeding stakeholder perspectives into the ongoing validation of IMPROVE use cases across multiple disease areas, including oncology, ophthalmology, cardiovascular disease, neurology, and chronic
inflammatory conditions. These use cases demonstrate how patient-generated health data can be applied in real-world settings to improve outcomes, patient experience, and system efficiency. This use cases studies are conducted by Philips Medical System BV.
About the IMPROVE Project
The IMPROVE project aims to make digital healthcare more efficient and patient-centered by placing patient-generated health data at the core of treatment evaluation, medical device development, and healthcare innovation. By integrating patient preferences and experiences into clinical decision-making and technology design, IMPROVE supports faster market entry of patient-focused, cost-effective healthcare solutions.
A key outcome of the project is the IMPROVE platform, which will provide stakeholders with access to best practices, scientific evidence, policy insights, and data dashboards supporting value-based healthcare implementation across Europe.
The IHI IMPROVE consortium brings together 26 partners from ten European countries, representing expertise from academia, industry, and public authorities. Four consortium partners are based in the Netherlands: Philips Medical Systems Nederland BV, Tilburg University, the Netherlands Cancer Institute, and Utrecht University. The project is coordinated by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain).
IHI IMPROVE is funded by the Innovative Health Initiative Joint Undertaking (IHI JU) under grant agreement No. 101132847. The Joint Undertaking receives support from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme and from industry associations including COCIR, EFPIA, MedTech Europe, and Vaccines Europe. The consortium consists of 26 partners from 10 European countries, coordinated by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain).
